3/19/05 Rams shut out Coyotes

118 die hard fans that braved the rain and snow Saturday were treated to a gritty defensive effort from the Wenatchee Valley Rams. The Rams defeated the Columbia River Coyotes of the Oregon Football League 22-0 at Wildcat Stadium in East Wenatchee. This marks the second week in a row that the Rams have shut out their opponent. And in an interesting turn of events, the Rams wore the green home jerseys of the Quincy Jackrabbits. There was a mix-up as to who was to wear white jerseys, and the Rams green jerseys are still being completed.

"Columbia River was unable to wear their blue jerseys,” coach Paul Preston explained. “(Quincy High Coach) Bill Alexander loaned us some older GREEN Quincy HS jerseys ... So we could have something close to our team colors. Our team loves Coach Alex and dedicated the game to him in honor of his green jerseys. A real case of Lemons into Lemonade."

The weather certainly affected the conditions, and seemed to only enhance the Ram defense. They held the Coyotes to 0 yards passing and 32 yards rushing. They also picked off two passes, and recovered 3 fumbles. Offensively, Wenatchee had 123 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, and 77 yards and 1 touchdown through the air.

Said Preston, “We were not expecting a SNOWSTORM and such cold temperatures. We had one fumble and lost it, they had 10 and we recovered three. It definitely affected QB gripping the ball to throw and receivers being able to cut on patterns. I was pleased with 200 yards of offense by our first unit ... and our Defense was outstanding!”

The Rams will next host the Washington Cavaliers from the Northwest Football League on Saturday 3/26 at 4:00 pm at the Apple Bowl in Wenatchee.
