“Laodicean”

A Prophetic Sign to America

The Lord, in His mercy, continues to openly warn America regarding impending judgment, unless we turn from our wicked ways in true repentance. On May 28^th, Kavya Shivashankar from Olathe, Kansas, won the National Spelling Bee by spelling the word “Laodicean”.

In the book of Revelation, the Lord rebuked the Laodiceans for becoming spiritually lukewarm, and warned them that He would vomit them out of His mouth if they did not repent. The Laodicean’s wealth had deceived them into believing that they had “need of nothing” – not even God. Little did they know that they were “wretched, miserable” and spiritually “poor, blind, and naked” (Revelation 3:14-22).

Not unlike the Laodiceans, Americans have been deceived in our pursuit of riches, and have forgotten about God. We have become friends with the world, and have unwittingly become enemies of God. The Apostle James, Jesus’ half brother, rebuked the Jewish Christians for their hedonism and covetousness, calling them “adulterers and adulteresses!” (James 4:1-4).

James 4:4 “Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself and enemy of God.”

Is it a mere coincidence that the National Spelling Bee winner’s name Shivashankar, is derived from two Hindu words, “Shiva” and “Shankar”, which are both names of a major Hindu god that mean “Destroyer”? It is also interesting to note that the winner’s first name “Kavya” refers to a lyrical, psalm-like, writing style used by Indian poets and her number tag during this year’s National Spelling Bee was “110”.

Psalm 110:1-2, 5-6 “The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at My right hand till I make Your enemies Your footstool.’ The Lord shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies!” . . . He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath. He shall judge among the nations . . . He shall execute the heads of many countries.”

Indeed, since America has not humbled itself under the mighty hand of God, we have subjected ourselves to His rod of judgment. As enemies of God, our sins are now drawing nationwide economic and environmental judgments. However, it is not too late for His hand of judgment to be stayed and His hand of mercy to be extended toward America – if we will repent (Romans 8:2).
